I had an amazing two weeks in Arizona. Riding with the Wounded Warrior Project on the Soldier Ride (life changing.) Teaching MovementU Swim Bike Run: Movement Efficiency and Performance at Athletes' Performance (seeing people smile, big.) Getting educated on performance at Athletes' Performances Mentorship Phase II (I love learning!) Doing a ton of performance consulting with athletes (super enlightening for them AND me!) Mountain biking with my buddies, one of which, Mark Miller, is gearing up for the ultimate desert adventure in motor sports, The Dakar, in January (I didn't crash.) Went to a highschool football game which I hadn't done in decades (yet nothing's changed!) Topped off with Ironman Arizona spectating (and doing some bike/run movement pattern recon.) LOVED IT ALL. Here are a few photos...
ONWARD.I had been invited to Thanksgiving in Telluride, CO by a few friends and knew a couple more who were going to be there. I'd been tossing the idea back and forth for weeks. I wanted so badly to go. I've wanted to check it out all year. But I was also trying to be realistic...having launched a new business, my to do list just always seems miles long. Smart thing for me to do was to head back to San Diego have a nice long weekend of getting caught up on everything: emails, writing, video editing. I have enough of that to keep me busy for a week, and the thought of having it all off my plate is just awesome. It would free me up to go forward with a few other ideas/business development etc.
So I decided to head back to San Diego Tuesday. Which turned into Wednesday (as Craig so aptly predicted.) I finally got on the road. Bummed I wasn't going to Telluride but convincing myself that by hunkering down on work, I was investing in my FUTURE to spend all the time I wanted in Telluride or wherever my heart desired.
I got on the road late. 6pm or so. I would've been at home in SD by 11pm-ish. I apologized to my friends who invited me and asked them to please invite me back! That's when I got this:
I pulled off at the next exit. Typed "Telluride, CO" into my GPS...had a twinge of "ouch" when I saw "500mi and 3:20am arrival" pop up on the screen, but it was overshadowed by complete content! Retraced about 50 miles I'd already come - and was on my way again - in the opposite direction. Why not? Check this out...the drive to Telluride!! (It's not me, but its a tease...if you haven't been here yet!)
Thanksgiving was amazing: in a log cabin, with homecooked, organic goodness made from scratch. Today sitting on the gondola in Telluride, coordinating with a friend to meet for a quick hello somewhere on the slopes one word came to mind...precious.
Now sitting in The Steaming Bean on Main Street having a coffee, working away, but glad I get to work here...in a new place, having a new experience. I love it, and I am thankful that taking the road less traveled is my default. I've come to realize that I'm incapable of not giving into it. And I'm glad for that too!!
Do something you haven't done before. As often as you can. You won't regret it.All my best!!!
